About Us

Alagappa College of Technology is an educational institution located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India that offers higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences. The college was established in 1944 and was integrated with Anna University in 1978 from University of Madras as a constituent part of Anna University.



The College takes pride in having a Central Library housed in a three storeyed block with a built up area of 1458 sq.m.The ground floor houses books stack area,circulation counter and online public access catalogue facility.The first floor houses journal Section,Reference Section,Reprographic Section and Digital Library.The Library has more than 87000 books and subscribing 300 journals which include national and international journals and magazines.In addition to books and journals.


A hostel has to simulate home conditions to the maximum extent possible. This is with the intention of providing the students with the most conducive atmosphere to pursue studies in comfort. There are three hostels, each one for UG, PG and Girl students, situated within the same campus. Nearly 2,000 students are housing in the hostels. As Alagappa College of Technology  attracts students from different states of India and from other countries, all efforts are made to serve a wide variety of food to cater to their diverse tastes. Students are encouraged to workout their own menus. Monthly mess bill is calculated on dividing basis.

The Department of Placement and Training is an elemental section of the Institute and is supervised by a Placement Officer, who is in-charge of all the activities to be taken over in the Placement Cell. The Placement Officer is aided by four Placement Coordinators, one from the final year of each department, who are elected based on their proficiency and expertise. The students are trained in placement perspective right from their sixth semester and are constantly put through various kinds of tests which shape them up to face the placement interview process in total confidence and buoyancy. It is the sole duty of the Placement Officer to not only ensure that the students are trained to get acclimatized to an Industrial environment but also to cope with and be competent enough to face such an ambience.

Many corporate companies are visiting regularly for campus interview. First time in the history of ACCET 2004-08 batch Civil Engineering students achieved 100% campus placement.The college shows keen interest in students getting exposed to industries. It has signed MoUs with “FLSMIDTH” and “CARITOR” and has great vision to extend its relationship with other industries. ECE department of our college has signed MoU with companies like “VI MICROSYSTEM”, “ENIXS”, “IFUTURA”.

ADMISSION & SELECTION PROCEDURE Admission is based on merit (marks/grades obtained in the qualifying examination-refer the Eligibility Norms) and availability of seats.

About the Exam:

Admission to all undergraduate courses ie. Bachelors in Engineering (B.E.) are carried out through the single window system of the Anna University. Students can choose the courses based upon the state-wise rank calculated by their marks in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Department of Education, Government of TamilNadu.

Reservations are provided for BC/MBC/DNC/SC/ST etc as per the rules of the Government of TamilNadu.

Reservations are also provided for Physically handicapped / Ex-Service men / Sports persons / Other state candidates.

Eligibility Criteria:


Candidates satisfying the eligibility conditions given below as on the last date of submission of application are eligible to apply. Passing the qualifying examination after the last date of submission of application shall not be considered.

i)Tamil Nadu candidates who have passed VIII, IX, X, XI and XII Std. in TamilNadu are eligible to apply. They need not enclose Nativity Certificate.

ii)Tamil Nadu native candidates who have passed any of the VIII, IX, X, XI and XII Std. or their equivalent examination from schools situated outside Tamil Nadu can also apply. They should enclose a copy of Nativity Certificate only in electronic form/digitally signed e-Certificate.

iii)Children of Central Government Employees may also apply for admission, irrespective of their native, provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past FIVE YEARS at the time of submission of application, which should be supported by enclosing a certificate from the employer of the parent or guardian, to that effect.

iv)Sons and daughters of All India service Tamil Nadu cadre officers are eligible to apply.

v)Children of employees in Public Sector or Government recognised Institutions who at the time of submission of application for admission employed in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years may also apply irrespective of their domicile. A certificate from the employer has to be enclosed along with the application stating that the person is a Permanent Employee of the Firm or Institution concerned with evidence like Income Tax return, PF Slips, etc. and is working in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past FIVE YEARS.

vi)Other State candidates who have studied VIII, IX, X, XI and XII Std. in TamilNadu are eligible to apply. They need not enclose “Nativity Certificate”.

Exam Pattern:

The exam pattern of TNEA 2017 will be as below

  • TNEA 2017 comprises of multiple choice questions.
  • Paper Pattern of TNEA 2017 question paper will have 150 questions.
  • While, each question will contain 1 mark for each.
  • Total time duration of exam paper will be 2 hours and 30 mins.
  • Note, probably no negative marking scheme for wrong answer attempted
